Registering Poultry and Captive Birds with DEFRA

Are you aware that as of October of this year, you need to register poultry and captive birds with the Government, no matter how many you keep?  Previously you only needed to register birds if you held over 50, but now you must register even if you keep one or two.  This is all part of the Government's plans to more effectively deal with outbreaks of avian influenza and is particularly important in light of an ongoing breakout in several areas of the East Riding including a number near Beverley.
